Getting Started: Understanding Game Mechanics

If you are just beginning your journey in A Universal Time, the sheer scale of the map and the number of systems can feel overwhelming. The core gameplay loop revolves around obtaining stands, leveling them up, and optimizing your character’s stats for both PvE and PvP.

First, familiarize yourself with the basic controls: use M1 for standard attacks, F to block, and E to barge. Your inventory and stats can be accessed via the menu button in the top-left corner. Remember that in this game, your progress is tied to the specific stand or specialization (spec) you are currently using. Each ability slot keeps its own saved progress. Equipping a different ability shows that ability’s level; it does not erase the levels saved on the previous ability.

How to Level Up Efficiently

Leveling up is the most crucial aspect of becoming stronger. According to community experience, there are two primary methods to accelerate your growth:

  • The Black Marketeer Method: Locate the Black Marketeer in the West Park. Defeat random NPCs across the map to collect chests, open them for items, and sell those items for U-coins. Use these coins at the ability banner to spin for shards. Rare shards provide significantly more XP when sold back to the Black Marketeer.
  • NPC Farming: If you prefer direct combat, seek out NPCs that match your current level. The desert region is a popular spot for farming, as the NPCs there yield substantial XP, though they are significantly tougher to defeat.

Tip

Always put your stat points into "Attack" first. While you have freedom in how you build your character, focusing on damage output is the most reliable way to clear content quickly as a beginner.

Managing Stands and Specializations

Obtaining your first stand is simple: find a meteor, claim it, and use the resulting arrow on your standless character. However, specs are more complex and often require unique items or specific quest chains.

Follow the tutorial and crafting menu

The official Trello tutorial card places The Guide in West Park near the teleporter. Its tutorial quests introduce the game's systems. The nearby Crafting NPC combines ability shards and the matching items; inspect the recipe for your chosen ability before spending resources. These documentation cards were last updated in June–July 2025, so follow the live menu if a later patch changes a location or recipe.

Do not assume an old item-evolution chart still describes version 6.3. Older AUT guides refer to different currencies, spawn timers, and recipes. Check the specific ability's current quest and inventory requirements instead.

Advanced Progression: Traits and Mounts

As you reach level 25, you will encounter the "Trait" system. A trait window will appear at the top of your screen; you must select one to continue using the menu or trading. Traits provide passive buffs to your stand or spec, and their rarity dictates the power of the boost. If you are unsatisfied with your trait, visit the Trait Revolver NPC to reroll it.

Mobility is equally important. Do not spend too much time running across the map on foot. Head to the West Station and look for the podiums where you can purchase a bike or a hoverboard. These mounts are essential for moving between quest locations and farming spots quickly.

  • [ ] Secure a mount early to save travel time.
  • [ ] Check the "Miscellaneous" section in the menu for game codes to get free items.
  • [ ] Monitor your health and stamina during boss fights; use moves with wide AoE (Area of Effect) to manage groups of enemies.

Farming Currency and Endgame

Once your character exceeds level 100, the best way to earn U-coins and shards is the Boundless Tower. Accessible via the main menu's "Game Modes" section, this mode challenges you to survive waves of increasingly difficult NPCs.

We recommend bringing friends for this mode, as it can be quite challenging for solo players. Use stands or specs with high-damage, wide-range abilities—such as Gojo or Reaper—to maximize your efficiency. Since Boundless Tower operates on an "Infinity" system, your goal is to stay alive as long as possible. The rewards, including U-coins and XP, are significantly higher here than in standard open-world farming.

What should I unlock first?

Start with the tutorial and an ability whose recipe you can complete. Practice its controls before investing in a harder quest. Community farming recommendations are suggestions, not a guarantee that one ability is best for every player.

How do I get skins for my stands?

Skins are obtained either by repeatedly using stand arrows for a chance at a cosmetic variant or by purchasing skin crates from the shop menu. Check the "Items" section in the shop to see the drop percentages for specific skins.

Source and version notes

The leveling and Boundless Tower suggestions draw on a community beginner walkthrough. They describe the recorded gameplay and have not been independently tested in the current live build. The older “A Noobs Guide” wiki recipe and spawn-timer claims are excluded from this guide.
