Understanding King of Curses Mastery Progression

In A Universal Time, advancing your King of Curses ability is a structured process that relies on specific legendary items. Unlike standard experience-based leveling, this ability follows a strict item-gated progression system defined by the official King of Curses Mastery Trello documentation. To reach the peak of your power, you must systematically apply specific items to your ability.

This progression is divided into two distinct phases: the initial grind from mastery 1 through 19, and the final ascension to mastery 20. Understanding which item is required for each tier is essential to avoid wasted effort and to ensure you are farming the correct bosses.

The Role of Sukuna’s Fingers (Mastery 1–19)

For the majority of your journey, you will need to collect and utilize "Sukuna’s Finger." According to the King of Curses Quest/Mastery Items documentation, this legendary item is the exclusive key for all ranks from 1 to 19.

You cannot use the final mastery item until you have successfully navigated these first 19 levels. Because you need multiple fingers to reach the 19th rank, efficient farming is necessary.

Tip

Farming Sources: You can obtain Sukuna’s Fingers by defeating the following bosses:

  • The Bearer (Slayer Boss)
  • King of Curses (Boss)
  • Mahoraga (Raid Boss)

Focusing on these encounters is the only legitimate way to gather the necessary resources. If you are stuck at a specific mastery level below 20, ensure you have a Sukuna’s Finger in your inventory and apply it directly to your King of Curses ability.

Ascending to Mastery 20 with the Wheel of Dharma

Once you have reached Mastery 19, the requirements change. You can no longer use Sukuna’s Fingers to progress further. The final step—Mastery 20—requires the "Wheel of Dharma."

This item is also of Legendary rarity but serves a specific, singular purpose in the progression tree. Failing to secure this item will prevent you from accessing the final move in the King of Curses arsenal.

Final Mastery Checklist:

  • [ ] Reach Mastery 19 using Sukuna’s Fingers.
  • [ ] Obtain the "Wheel of Dharma" (drop from the Mahoraga raid boss).
  • [ ] Apply the Wheel of Dharma to your King of Curses ability to unlock Mastery 20.

Key Ability Unlocks and Milestones

Progression is not just about increasing a number; it is about unlocking the kit's potential. Each major mastery milestone introduces new moves that significantly alter your combat effectiveness.

Mastery 8: Fuga

Unlocks the move “Fuga,” which allows you to shape an arrow of pyrokinetic fury with your hands and fire it forward.

Mastery 15: Malevolent Shrine

Expands the domain, attacking nearby targets with slashes.

  • Effects: Increases damage and defense by 20%.
  • Synergy: Amplifies Dismantle, Cleave, World Cutting Slash, and Fuga.
  • Note: These moves go on cooldown due to burnout after the domain ends.

Mastery 19: Fuga (Ult)

An ultimate variant of Fuga. When used inside the Malevolent Shrine, the output is increased significantly, though it ends the domain immediately upon use.

Mastery 20: World Cutting Slash

The final unlock. It enhances Dismantle to target the world itself, cutting through resistances and dealing true damage.

Troubleshooting and FAQ

If you are experiencing issues with progression, review the following points based on the official documentation.

Why can't I progress past Mastery 19?

Mastery 19 is the cap for Sukuna's Fingers. To reach level 20, you must use the "Wheel of Dharma," which is a separate item dropped by the Mahoraga raid boss.

Does the Malevolent Shrine provide permanent buffs?

No. The 20% increase to damage and defense is tied to the activation of the domain. Additionally, note that the domain causes burnout, placing your other key moves (Dismantle, Cleave, Fuga, World Cutting Slash) on cooldown once the domain expires.

Can I use the Wheel of Dharma at Mastery 1?

No. The progression is linear. You must complete the 1-19 sequence using Sukuna's Fingers before the Wheel of Dharma can be applied for the final mastery rank.
